Character-defining features

  • One or two stories in height;
  • Plain exterior stucco or smooth plaster finished walls;
  • Flat or hipped terra cotta tiled roof;
  • Arched openings, particularly at the ground floor;
  • Arcaded exterior corridors;
  • Wide overhanging eaves;
  • Espadana (curvilinear parapet, often with arched shaped bell tower with domed or hipped roof);
  • Small balconies;
  • Single-entry door of wood; and,
  • Double-hung wood windows.
