 This serves as the City of Whittier’s (City) Notice of Intent to adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) for the Whittier Boulevard/Santa Fe Springs Road Intersection Improvement Project, prepared in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), CEQA Guidelines, and local implementation procedures.

Name of Project:    Whittier Boulevard/Santa Fe Springs Road Intersection Improvement Project

Project Location:    Regionally, the project site is located in the western portion of the City, within the County of Los Angeles.  Locally, the project site is the intersection of Whittier Boulevard at Santa Fe Springs Road.

Lead Agency:         City of Whittier, 13230 Penn Street, Whittier, California 90602

Project Description:        The proposed project would provide intersection improvements consisting of an additional westbound through lane on Whittier Boulevard and an additional southbound through lane and southbound right-turn pocket on Pickering Avenue.  These improvements would address existing traffic deficiencies and implement improvements consistent with the City’s General Plan Transportation Element.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT the City Council, pursuant to law, will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at 6:30 p.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard, in the City Council Chambers, 13230 Penn Street, Whittier, California, to consider the Mitigated Negative Declaration.  The MND is based on the finding that, by implementing the identified mitigation measures, the project’s potential significant adverse impacts will be reduced to a less than significant level.  The reasons to support such a finding are documented by an Initial Study prepared by the City.  Copies of the Initial Study, the proposed MND and supporting materials are available for public review at the following locations:
