Mary Ann Pacheco was elected to the City Council in April 2024 to a four-year term serving the residents of District 1 and has been a prominent resident of the Uptown Whittier area for more than 40 years. Mary Ann grew up in Southern California, attending schools in Lynwood and Downey before earning her B.A. in English and Ethnic Studies from the University of Southern California and her M.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles.
A dedicated member of Rio Hondo College's faculty for 38 years, she served as a professor of English and held several leadership positions, including President of the Academic Senate and the Rio Hondo College Faculty Association. Following her retirement, Mary Ann was honored as a Fellow of the College and elected to the College’s Board of Trustees for a five-year term. Additionally, she has gained national recognition as an educational leader earning prestigious awards including the Cesar E. Chavez Awards from the California Teachers Association and the National Education Association.
Mary Ann previously served on the Boards of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Whittier and Pico Rivera, as well as the Hispanic Outreach Taskforce (H.O.T.), and is a past president of Soroptimist International of Whittier. She is a long-time active member of her local parish, St. Mary of the Assumption, and coordinates the lector ministry.
