SALARY:
Academy Recruit: up to $ 85,200
Police Officer Base: up to $ 113,232
Police Officer Base: up to $ 135,878 (Advanced POST, BA/BS Degree, and specialty pay)
Lateral Applicants:
- $20,000 hiring bonus
- Full-time law enforcement service credit towards vacation accrual seniority
- Up to 40 hours of sick time from your previous law enforcement employer
- Up to 40 hours of vacation time from your previous law enforcement employer
- Previous years with a POST agency count towards your longevity pay
INCENTIVE PAY:
Longevity Pay
It starts at your 10-year mark and increases every five years
- 10 years - $1,500
- 15 years - $2,500
- 20 years - $3,500
- 25 years - $4,500
- 30 years - $5,500
- 35 years - $6,500
Education Pay (Upon sworn appointment, for the highest level of education completed)
- 2% AA/AS degree
- 4% BA/BS degree
- 5% MA/MS degree
Bilingual Pay (Upon sworn appointment)
$200 Per month for Spanish language
Annual Uniform Allowance
$1200 Per year
POST Pay (For the highest level of certification obtained)
- 5% Above base for Intermediate POST
- 11% Above base for Advanced POST
SPECIALTY PAY:
- 9% Above base for Corporal pay
- 5% Above base for Motor pay
- 7% Above base for Detective pay, and Traffic Bureau
- 5% Above base for Admin, K-9, FTO, SRO, MET Team, Traffic Bureau & Whittwood Center Officer, POP, SET Team, and CIT Team

The Whittier PD Advantage:
Full-time jail staff, all specialized positions are rotational, SWAT, SORT, Tech Team, civilian CSO units handle cold reports, college tuition reimbursement, $75k home purchasing assistance program, computer purchasing assistance program, and much more!
Retirement:
Employees hired prior to 1/1/13 and those individuals identified as Classic Members under Public Employment Retirement Law (PERL) will be enrolled in the City’s 3% @ 50 formula for Safety Members (2.5% @ 55 for Miscellaneous Members) and may have a future CalPERS contribution as established by resolutions, labor agreements or Public Employee Retirement Law. New Members under Public Employees' Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) hired as of 1/1/13 will have the new CalPERS 2.7% @ 57 Safety Plan (2% @ 62 for Miscellaneous Plan) and will have a mandatory CalPERS contribution as established by PERL. There is currently no deduction for Social Security, as the City of Whittier does not participate in the Social Security program.
